I love my farm. Every day, I wake up in paradise. Birds singing, chickens clucking, chipmunks scurrying, deer grazing, turkey vultures and hawks overhead… Life – in all its beauty – is happening all around me. I truly feel like I’m part of something bigger when I’m here. I feel in union with nature.
The word yoga means “union” in Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language that also provides us with all the names for yoga poses that we still use today. Asana is Sanskrit for “pose” or “seat”. And because yoga means union – union with the inner Self, the physical body and breath, other people, surrounding energy, and even nature – it seems only natural for me to practice yoga asana (or yogasana) in the place where I feel most connected to the whole Universe.
The past few days at the farm have been so incredibly warm and alive with activity that the whole family is having a hard time staying inside. For my first yoga video of 2013, I’m taking you outside to practice with me by my little barn. This is a 7-minute routine that will encourage flexibility and openings in your hips, side body, front body, and back. Baby Summer and even a chicken or two make an appearance. Namaste and enjoy!
