So January is about trying new things. Something that you may not know about me is that while I love trying new things, I absolutely hate changing my usual routine, my environment, or anything about what I like to do every day. Unfortunately, this also includes some long held beliefs. But what is that? It’s ATTACHMENT! And my whole practice in LIFE is to detach myself from habits, dogma, ruts, cycles, possessions… you get the idea.

Every month GrowSoulBeautiful.com posts a new series of poses for the #YogaADay instagram challenge, and every month I resist participating. I’m always stressing to you that it’s not about the pose – it’s not about the pose – it is absolutely not about the freaking pose!
~ For all of you caught up in the goal, the outcome, the POSE… let go.
~ Start where you are. Go easy. Be Free.
~ If you can breathe, you can do yoga.
~ Yoga is about what happens on the inside, not what you look like on the outside.

Yep, I’ve said all of that… a lot. I struggled with the idea of participating in something that (in my old opinion) emphasizes the “pose” and not the “getting there”. But it’s January, so I did it. And it’s been really fun. What the challenge has sparked in me is a new way to look at my practice. With each new day, I think about how my practice influences and is influenced by my behavior as a mother, an entrepreneur, an artist, a teacher, a wife, a friend.

How does my yoga practice inform my decisions? How I feel about myself? My whole life off the mat? Those questions are what I will be exploring through my participation in this challenge. Thank you, Grow Soul Beautiful.

And while we’re on the subject of exploring and learning, I’d like to offer my latest meditation to my followers who are also students. My most requested meditation has come from my young friends who are struggling with exams or the stress of schoolwork. I always got good grades, but I was a HORRIBLE student. My mind was always wandering, I hated doing homework, and I put every assignment off until the last minute. I can’t say that I’ve changed much over the years. I just happen to be doing what I love for a living. Maybe procrastination will be something I work on… next year.
