Body image is a legacy passed down through generations.
Love your body and your kids will love theirs too. >> tweet
I tweet that a LOT, because I think it’s such an important message to remember. Like I told you in my video on HOW TO BE AWESOME, I keep a little notebook full of random thoughts and meditations. Messages on self-esteem and body acceptance are the ones I focus on the most.
so proud of my Winona
Whether you realize it or not, you have influence on the people around you. If you’re a parent, that influence also comes with a TON of responsibility. I like to think that I’m a good influence to my little people, but the truth is that I’ve said a lot of messed up stuff about myself in front of them. I’m not always happy with how I look or the diet choices I make, and I’ve expressed that in less than healthy ways in their presence. I agonize over whether or not that’s had a negative effect on them.
What I want to know from YOU is how you’ve been influenced by your parents in the areas of health (both physical and emotional) and fitness. I talked about the lessons I learned from MY parents in my blog about curing childhood boredom.
– Were your parents healthy and active when you were growing up?
– Did they lead an unhealthy lifestyle?
– Did your mother talk positively or negatively about her body in front of you? How did that affect how you feel about YOUR body?
– How much of your current attitude toward food and fitness can be attributed to how you were raised?
– If you’re a parent, do you talk about your own body issues and food choices with your children? How do they respond?
