Last Monday’s blog was all about the benefits of working out with your partner (you should read it – it’s super fun), but there’s at least one drawback that I didn’t cover. When you’re sweating together, you’re also getting a little smelly together. It’s ok, it’s not the end of the world…
we get dirty (and smelly)
When I told Mr. Borucki that I was going to write a blog about his disgusting, smelly workout clothes, he was less than pleased. But then I said, “No! I took a survey on my Facebook page. Everybody stinks!” And it’s true. It’s like the children’s book, Everybody Poops – everybody sweats, and EVERYBODY stinks (at least a little).
I’ve tried just about every DIY solution for getting “the stinky” out of synthetic fitness materials. I’ve pre-soaked, pre-washed, double-washed, made my own laundry detergent, and even used vinegar upon the suggestion of some Facebook fans. As you can see above, I already had plans to try a new Tide detergent that was recommended to me by the myTide selector quiz. I was surprised to see that several Facebook fans suggested the EXACT detergent I was testing – Tide plus Febreze Sport.
It wasn’t hard to find test material for the experiment. Mr. Borucki was happy to get absolutely gross doing a ton of yard work on Borucki Farm this week. Cleaning out chicken coops is also a super fast way to get stink-tastic.
neon chicken castles are worth a little extra dirty laundry
No pre-washing, no pre-soaking, no extra fussy work, I just threw all his work clothes (which happens to all be athletic wear) right into the wash with my new Tide. And… it actually worked! But the real test was seeing if it continued to work after he wore the clothes again. Usually, the smell reactivates as soon as he begins to sweat, but this time the clothes stayed smelling clean (right up until HE stopped smelling clean).
Overall, I’m super amped to find something that works. My instagram pics have revealed my obsessive sneaker washing habits, and you KNOW how I treasure my insane neon spandex collection that will now be even better preserved and protected. I was also pleased to find out that my Tide contains biodegradable soaps, it comes in recyclable packaging, it’s phosphate-free and it’s safe for the Borucki Farm septic system.
Tide with Febreze Sport did an awesome job on my laundry, which allows me to perform awesomely during my workouts. For more tips on being awesome and living fit, check out this week’s Let’s Be Friends Friday video on… you got it… how to be AWESOME. xo
