Last weekend I faced my fears and took a class on flying. No, not airplanes. I attended a workshop with Sadie Nardini about learning to fly in yoga.

You see, for a long time I’ve been telling myself that I’m a girl who can’t do handstands. This is one in a long list of many lies that I tell myself to protect myself from letting go of fear… because letting go of fear can be so much scarier than actually doing the thing that scares you.
a joyful Sadie… freedom from fear = joy
I never has as much fun as I do when I’m learning something new…
… or practicing yoga with a group of amazing souls.
We all lie to ourselves in one way or another. We use all kinds of words and phrases – positive and negative – to describe who we are. But the truth is that we’re usually none of those things. In reality, we are simply beautiful, radiant, miraculous balls of boundless and unlimited energy, capable of all things. Our opinions of ourselves only blind us to that fact. We grasp and cling to our identities, falling deeper into our comfort zones, avoiding the things that scare us most, and we cheat ourselves out of knowing our true selves. We cheat ourselves out of success. Change (and progress) happens in our DIScomfort zones.

Sometimes our limiting self-speak can prevent us from experiencing huge opportunities for joy and prosperity, and sometimes it may only prevent us from learning to so something as simple as performing a pushup. But when we make the decision to limit ourselves by lying to ourselves about who we are, we can have no idea about what the repercussions of that individual lie can be. We must always be careful to take the time to examine our thoughts and ask ourselves, “is this a statement I’m making out of fear of the unknown or out of love for my true self?”
I encounter a lot of self-doubters and nay-sayers and people who say “I can’t” in my line of work. My job is to tell you that you absolutely and undoubtedly can. I believe in you even when you don’t believe in yourselves…
