What happened to our sweet adorable babies? Adolescence! Below are pics of our Silkie babies when we first brought them home from the farm, and then pics of the chicks today. Their peach fuzz is nearly all gone, their big-kid feathers are coming in, they’re gawky and awkward and – yes, I’ll say it – a little hideous.
We call this stage the “dinosaur phase”. The chicks look less like birds and more like their dinosaur ancestors… long legs, skinny necks, and stumpy little wings. You can see the beginnings of their feather crests appearing on the tops of their little ugly heads. Coconut, Bob, and Terry have a long way to go before they turn into beautiful Silkie adults, but I have to admit that I just love ugly animals!
