Since the moment I got serious about fitness, I’ve been on a mission to find the formula for true health. I know it has a lot to do with having a good attitude – a positive approach to life. You can’t exercise a bad diet away, so eating clean, whole foods like fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds is essential. There’s no point in being fit in an unfit world, so it’s crucial to our good health to maintain responsible ecological practices in our homes and habits. And exercise needs to happen everyday. If you’re not moving, you’re dying.
But that’s all I have so far.
I move a LOT. People ask me all the time how I find time to workout, and I think to myself “I’m a mother of four. When am I NOT working out?” At any given moment, you can walk into my house and find me lugging a 20-lb baby, a laundry basket, and a pile of toys up and down three flights of stairs. I could be cleaning a chicken coop, shoveling dirt in the garden, vacuuming, scrubbing, making a workout video… I’m always doing something. I make it to the gym, too, but that’s my relaxation time (not kidding… an all-by-myself workout is like mini-vacation for me).
My diet is pretty good – mostly organic, mostly raw, mostly plant-based. Ok, I eat a Reese’s cup now and then. We’ve had a long, back & forth love affair, and I’m having a hard time letting go.
And I’m happy. I have a ton of gratitude for all the amazing people and experiences I’ve been so fortunate to have in my life.
Where am I going with all of this? Oh yeah… your giveaway.
I get approached by supplement companies all the time for reviews, but I haven’t found one that shared my approach to diet and fitness as much as Vega Sport… welcome to my first sport supplement giveaway! I’ve actually known about Vega Sport for a while through my friend, John Joseph, New York punk Rock legend, vegan activist and author. He’s always talking about vegan athletes, and he’s brought up Brendan Brazier (ironman triathlete, author, and creator of Vega Sport) a bunch of times as an extraordinary example.
I haven’t used supplements as part of my regular fitness routine in the past, but I’m planning on 2012 being the year when I push past all former personal limits and take my training to the next level. I’m looking for all the help I can get.
So for the past few weeks, I’ve been testing out a variety of products from Vega Sport, and there’s a few reasons why I decided that there’s no way that I couldn’t share this find with you.
1. The people behind this product have a ton of integrity. Brendan Brazier has made it his mission to educate people about the benefits of a plant-based diet, and he created this product with true health in mind. And unlike other companies that I’ve talked to in the past, it was extremely important to them that I actually try the product and give it an honest review. It’s important to me that any company or organization I support has sustainable and environmentally sound business practices, which this one certainly has.
2. They have a HUGE supportive community. Just check them out on Facebook or Twitter to connect with other Vega Sport fans and get inspired by all the amazing things they’re doing. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in weekly product giveaways and get your questions answered directly by Vega staff and other followers.
3. The ingredients are real. Like, I can read and understand everything on the label and in the brochures. For example, the first two ingredients listed on the Pre-Workout Energizer are whole grain brown rice syrup and organic palm nectar. I checked out a few other big brand supplements only to find the word “artificial” describing one or more of the main ingredients. Not cool. The Vega Sport product line is completely plant-based and the performance claims are supported by real science. There’s no gimmick or promise of miracle results.
4. Oh, and yes, the stuff actually works. I’m currently digging the Pre-Workout Energizer powders extra hard, which is completely appropriate given the fact that what I need most right now is a giant kick in the butt to get up and hit the weights (something I’ve been dreading after almost exclusively practicing yoga for two years and just being pregnant/having a baby). I’m super sensitive to stimulants, but this gives me both immediate and sustained energy without making me jittery at all. They taste pretty great, too. My husband keeps stealing my drinks (now if I could only get him to workout, too).
The Pre-Workout Energizer is from the ‘Prepare’ part of the line, which also includes ‘Sustain’ products for use during your workout and ‘Recover’ to fix you up afterward and promote healing and recovery for your next workout. (I’ll get to those in another blog… right now I want to focus on getting you started – with your new year AND your next workout.)
